Stacked

I admittedly have a number of stacked books throughout my 1960's bungalow here in Northern California. They usually take the lead on my Christmas wish list. The newest home & garden, autobiography, and poetry volumes sort of pile up in a range of locations: the master bedroom closet, the nightstand, the family room ottoman, and so forth. How magical it would be to hammer in built-in shelving for each room in the home. Kitchens need hearty cookbooks, living areas will always need relevant reading material...even the bath area can use an entertaining book or two.

Starting your own orderly, private collection is pretty straightforward. Experts say that you should begin by cultivating your interests. What about that favorite book you read over and over as a child?

Reference books, ie: "DIY" materials will most likely be used more than once through the years. Be sure to make room for expansion and organize them by subject, author, or color, whatever suits your fancy. This can allow for easy retrieving. And, of course, there are a myriad of ways to stack them. You can even stack enough books to create a sweet little accent table (just make sure that they're hardback editions).

Personal libraries are inspiring resources that can bring years of delight and satisfaction. Your interests are a good place to start.
